A high-speed chairlift leading up to the Viderjoch

Flimjochbahn B2 in Ischgl

Since the 1990s, the Flimjochbahn is one of the most important hubs at the Silvretta Arena. It’s no surprise then that – since 2016 – the chairlift transports even more skiers up into the mountains of Ischgl. In winter, 3,200 people per hour can be transported between the Idalp and the Flimjoch – more efficiently, more comfortably and much faster. So that there’s more time left for skiing!

Alongside the optimizations of the Flimjochbahn itself, the focus was on renewing the mountain station. Thanks to its sheltered exit area, it’s possible – depending on wind direction – to always open an exit facing away from the wind.

The only one of its kind worldwide:
At the Silvretta Arena, two chairlifts run over one buttress. Buttress number 9 of the Höllbodenbahn lift serves as buttress number 3 for the Flimjochbahn. This makes it possible for 6,900 people per hour to be transported over this one buttress. It’s 25 metres high. At the Idjochbahn, two 8-people chairlifts cross each other at one buttress as well.

The Flimjochbahn then and now: from 4-people to 8-people chairlift

Until 2016, the previous Flimjochbahn carried out its duty to the best of its ability. It was built in 1993 and able to transport up to 2,400 people per hour. All in all, it put a total of 30 million (!) journeys up and down the mountain under its belt.

In May 2016, once the construction negotiations regarding cable car regulations were finally over, the old Flimjochbahn was taken down and construction of the new one started. A lot of work was done by employees of the Silvrettaseilbahn AG cable car company. For example, the entire concrete structure of the mountain station.
